PhD Student (2010-current). University of New South Wales/Garvan Institute of Medical Research. Project: "Lipid changes in pancreatic beta cells during insulin secretion". My PhD project focusses on the lipid species which are changed in beta cells during acute glucose stimulation, and will hopefully shed light on the elusive lipid species thought to play a role in regulating insulin release.
Bachelor of Medical Science, Honours (2004-2007). University of Technology, Sydney.
Honours Project: "Transdifferentation of liver cells into a more beta cell-like cell". This project utilised a novel liver cell line stably expressing the insulin gene, which is able to secrete insulin in reponse to glucose. My role was to further characterise this cell line, and see how far this liver cell had gone in differentiation to a beta cell.
Research Assistant (2008-2010). Garvan Institute of Medical Research.
Project: "The role of PKC epsilon in pancreatic beta cells". This project aimed to investigate the precise mechanism by which PKC epsilon deletion results in increased insulin secretion.
